Restore the Pride 1001
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 1001, 2009 is an important year for us. We have the opportunity to make a real change in the upcoming 2009 Local 1001 election. These changes will have a direct affect on us as union members. In order to make these changes Members must exercise their right to vote.
One of the most important and fundamental rights we have as Union members in good standing is the right to cast our vote. This right is guaranteed by the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act which also states that members have the right to secret ballots in elections. Member in good standing means:
1. A member who is not deemed suspended at the time of the election and is current in the payment of dues and other financial obligations to the Local.
2. A member must be in good standing on the membership rolls of both the Local Union and the International in order to vote.
3. A member is not qualified to vote if he/she is not current in their dues payment (more than 2 months behind).
4. Unemployed/laid off members can exercise their right to vote if current in their dues payment as are retirees.
5. Members who are suspended for dues delinquency past 60 days and who are properly reinstated by the payment of back dues and fees and thereby regain good standing are entitled to vote.
It is imperative that Members of Local 1001 contact the local to check their status in regards to dues payment in order that they may exercise their fundamental right to vote, a right they pay for.
The right to vote let’s members ask themselves when deciding on a candidate: Am I better off than I was the last election? Or can I do better? This is not a request or plea for your vote, only your consideration when voting. The Restore the Pride Slate feels and knows that we, as a membership, can do better. We can make a difference with your help and confidence in us. Confidence is a feeling of self assurance and certainty that a person has made the right decision. Have confidence when voting that a change is possible. Make your vote count! Fraternally yours, Restore the Pride.

In light of the recent comments made about my family and myself I would like to say something. If the current leadership suits your taste then by all means stick with them. We are not here to make disparaging personal remarks about anyone, let alone their family members. We are not here to say they are doing a bad job we are here to say we can do a better job. Let the best man win and try to keep this as professional as possible. That's what this is about anyway. One last thing, if you feel that strongly about a person or subject you should be an adult about it and sign your own name or let us know your feelings in person. This way we can move forward together. Fraternally Yours, Restore the Pride Slate.

Help is on the Way!
The time for accountability has arrived. Members of Local 1001 demand and deserve to be heard. Now is the time when questions must be answered, when innuendo and hearsay just won’t do anymore. It’s easy to point fingers but where will that get us. Today’s economic times call for educated leadership. A leadership that understands and promotes:
· Accountability - Accountability for the decisions being made.
· Transparency - There should not be secret or handshake deals that affect the membership. All dealings will be in the interest of the membership!
· Visibility - A strong leadership. A leadership that stands in front of its membership, not behind it. A leadership that instills confidence from the President on down to the stewards. A leadership that is hands on!!
· Education - A leadership that not only has hands on experience but also an educational background to enhance what we already know. You don’t trust your health, money etc. to uneducated people- why should your Union leadership be different?
· Pragmatism - Common sense solutions to common sense problems. We know the job better than anyone else. Contracts work both ways, why not let them work for us?
· Fiscal Responsibility - Cost cutting measures that not only reflect tough times but also reflect our commitment to the membership. Remember, we represent you and you represent us. We are in this together!
· Empathy - We are all in the same boat. Short memories are all too common. Nothing separates the membership from its leaders and nothing should separate the leadership from the members. We understand the needs of the membership and if we don’t then tell us!
· Availability-You pay for a service- you deserve to get one! Visiting job sites, steward accountability, establishing relationships, disciplinary representation!
We can and will do this. Let’s make Local 1001 a force to be reckoned with once again. Let’s Restore the Pride!! Email us at RestorethePride1001@hotmail.com
