Restore the Pride 1001
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 1001, 2009 is an important year for us. We have the opportunity to make a real change in the upcoming 2009 Local 1001 election. These changes will have a direct affect on us as union members. In order to make these changes Members must exercise their right to vote.
One of the most important and fundamental rights we have as Union members in good standing is the right to cast our vote. This right is guaranteed by the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act which also states that members have the right to secret ballots in elections. Member in good standing means:
1. A member who is not deemed suspended at the time of the election and is current in the payment of dues and other financial obligations to the Local.
2. A member must be in good standing on the membership rolls of both the Local Union and the International in order to vote.
3. A member is not qualified to vote if he/she is not current in their dues payment (more than 2 months behind).
4. Unemployed/laid off members can exercise their right to vote if current in their dues payment as are retirees.
5. Members who are suspended for dues delinquency past 60 days and who are properly reinstated by the payment of back dues and fees and thereby regain good standing are entitled to vote.
It is imperative that Members of Local 1001 contact the local to check their status in regards to dues payment in order that they may exercise their fundamental right to vote, a right they pay for.
The right to vote let’s members ask themselves when deciding on a candidate: Am I better off than I was the last election? Or can I do better? This is not a request or plea for your vote, only your consideration when voting. The Restore the Pride Slate feels and knows that we, as a membership, can do better. We can make a difference with your help and confidence in us. Confidence is a feeling of self assurance and certainty that a person has made the right decision. Have confidence when voting that a change is possible. Make your vote count! Fraternally yours, Restore the Pride.
